Soon, the passage of winding branches devolved into a hall of broken, midnight blue brick and jagged thorns, tendrils of flesh bursting free from the walls, and spilling across the tiles of the floor. I extinguished the light of my gauntlet, torches of violet fire now burning in the corridor before me, while a scourge of dilated eyes observed me through the cracked layers of brick, following me as I moved. The air smelled of fuel, reminding me of Lao-Va, yet everything felt so far removed from all that I knew, like an arcane atmosphere of alien malevolence had poisoned the fabric of reality itself. I reached a branching path, the way ahead leading into darkness, while to my left, a short hall stood open before me, a set of elegant double doors locked at the end of it, their golden, filigree handles standing in contrast to the immaculately ornate, but rotting and blackened wood. Walking down the hall, I saw another set of doors hanging open to my left, and when I came before them, I stopped in place, paralyzed where I stood.
